It was a case of back to the future for restaurateur Antonio Massim when he opened his new business at the same spot where his parents ran their restaurant nearly three decades ago.
The 31-year-old stunned his Italian parents when he revealed he was opening up his new business La Romantica in Bradford’s West End where the couple ran their Last Pizza Show restaurant 27 years ago.
Antonio was just four when he used to play in the kitchen while his mum and dad fed and entertained guests there before they closed the restaurant in Great Horton Road next to the Alhambra and the family went to live in Naples for four years.
But the family missed Yorkshire and later returned to run a restaurant in Brighouse until Rita and Franco retired.
Rita said: “Antonio spun a real surprise on us. Not just that he was leasing where The Last Pizza Show used to be but that he was also going to name it after our old Brighouse restaurant.
“The new La Romantica is totally his own venture but we’re on hand to help out if he needs us!”
