CCTV should be installed on school buses according to one district councillor after a schoolgirl was injured when a stone smashed the window of a bus she was travelling on.
Paramedics had to treat the 12-year-old girl for minor facial injuries after the window of the B5 bus was smashed as it travelled down Manningham Lane last Thursday afternoon.
It is understood that it had just picked up from St Joseph’s Catholic College on Cunliffe Road.
Now Labour Councillor Khadim Hussain, the executive member of West Yorkshire’s Integrated Transport Authority (Metro) which has responsibility for the buses, said that measures needed to be taken so that similar incidents did not happen again.
“I would wait until the investigation has been concluded then take preventative measures,” he said.
“The safety of children is of paramount importance and we take it very seriously. School buses should be equipped with CCTV.
“These incidents are taken very seriously and we need to look into this, especially if the girl was injured.”
Police were called to the bus at 3.30pm and subsequently interviewed a 13-year-old boy, who has now been referred to the Youth Offending Team.
