Legendary jazz acts Kenny Ball and the Brubeck family are performing in the district this autumn.
Kenny Ball (pictured) and his Jazzmen are as popular today as they were in 1960 when they had their first chart hit with Samantha.
Hit after hit came pouring out until the final tally was 14 Top 30 records, eclipsing even Kenny’s idol the great Louis Armstrong’s total – an achievement which has never been equalled by any other jazz artist.
The band’s popularity was further enhanced by four-year spells on The Morecambe And Wise Show and Saturday Night At The Mill, which were viewed by millions.
Also coming to the district is the talented Brubeck family, in town with Brubecks Play Brubeck. With special guest saxophonist Dave O’Higgins, the concert will include Brubeck originals as well as standard tunes associated with Dave Brubeck.
Four of Dave Brubeck’s five children are professional musicians and they all take off in different directions as well as coming together at special times.
Kenny Ball and his Jazzmen are at King’s Hall, Ilkley, on Thursday, November 3, and the Brubecks are at St George’s Hall, Bradford, on Monday, November 21. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
