A mum forced to push her 41-year-old son’s wheelchair through dirty water because of a flooded road is calling on Bradford Council to urgently fix the problem.
Maureen Dewhirst, 70, has struggled to get disabled son Steven, pictured with neighbour Zoe Jasper, to rehabilitation classes because of six-inch deep flood water in Princes Street, Wibsey, the unadopted road where she lives.
She said Steven, has to ask her to push his wheelchair through the flood water or remain housebound.
Neighbours say parents have also had to carry their children through the flood water to get them to school.
But Bradford Council’s principal highways engineer, Keith Escritt, said: “The maintenance of unadopted roads is the responsibility of the homeowners and that includes highway drainage.”
