A multi-million-pound youth centre in Bradford will throw open its doors to young people for the first time on Saturday.
The £7.38 million Culture Fusion project, at a converted mill in Thornton Road, includes a rooftop events area, music and dance studios, a youth cafe, climbing wall, faith pod, elevated wildflower meadow and a gym.
At noon on Saturday, a parade of young people will wind from Centenary Square toward the centre, which is due to be officially opened at 1pm by 14-year-old Coran Oxley, winner of the outstanding achievement prize at this year’s Young Citizen Awards.
The centre will be the result of a joint project led by the City of Bradford YMCA with Bradford Council and other organisations, including the NHS, Bradford College and the University of Bradford.
Young people aged 13 to 25 were involved in the project as both designers and advisors.
Amy Wilson, youth work manager at City of Bradford YMCA, said: “It is a celebration. Young people having the opportunity to celebrate the fact the building they have worked so hard towards has finally opened.”
