A show which uses circus skills to explore clinical depression is coming to Bradford.
Described as a “bipolar circus”, Box Of Frogs (pictured) has been created with financial support from Unlimited, a £3 million programme celebrating art and culture by disabled and deaf artists for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad.
Performed by Yorkshire theatre company Stumble danceCircus, the show is billed as a poignant, original and funny exploration of the highs and lows of bipolar swings, fusing the darkness of depression with the glamour, danger and romance of the circus.
Devised with a company of skilled circus performers, including a trick cyclist, juggler, acrobats, a hula-hoop dancer and aerialist, the show is driven by the rage of a woman struggling with depression who tries to still “the incessant hands of the juggler, stop the compulsive tapping of the drummer, and resist the frenzy of the escalating tempos”.
Five performers and two musicians appear on stage, surrounded by images of thoughts in their heads on film.
Box Of Frogs is on at The Alhambra Studio Theatre on Friday. For tickets, ring (01274) 432000.
