An exhibition by a Shanghai artist featuring intricate paper cut-outs reflecting both the age of big business and his ancient heritage opens in Bradford this weekend.

Called Unnatural Selection, the exhibition puts a twist on contemporary Christmas, with artist Chen Hangfeng mixing corporate logos and traditional Chinese symbols to create paper cut-outs, rugs, film and a paper Christmas tree.

As a graphic designer, Chen has created logos almost as often as he has satirised them. His artwork is described as a playful, aesthetically compelling and subtle interpretation of mass production industry working conditions.

The exhibition runs at Cartwright Hall from Saturday to February 26, 2012. Chen Hangfeng will be at the gallery on Sunday giving a talk and demonstration from 11.30pm to 1pm. There will also be live music from the Guzhang and Chinese Dragon.
