A “significant” royal visit could be on the cards during celebrations in the Bradford district to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee next year.
Bradford Council bosses have said detailed negotiations are under way to bring a senior member of the royal family to the area as part of a packed programme of events.
Information was revealed during a meeting of invited guests at City Hall to outline early plans for the 2012 celebrations and to encourage people to get involved.
Council chief executive Tony Reeves announced there would be no central funding to pay for events, although money would be raised through pledges by individuals and businesses, either to a communal fund or by sponsoring specific events.
Organisers of jubilee events will then be able to apply to the newly-formed Bradford District Comm-unity Fund for grant aid.
Mr Reeves stressed the importance of people in the Bradford district setting up their own events. He said: “We really want to know what you are going to do.”
