A 4x4 driver who hit a car after a marathon drinking session and rammed his way through the wreckage blocking the road has been jailed for six months.
Stephen Barrett, 39, drove his Mitsubishi Pajero after downing up to ten pints of beer and a large whisky at a pub, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
Barrett, a student, of Cavendish Street, Skipton, then went through the “farcical charade” of returning to the town’s Craven Arms later that day to pretend to retrieve the vehicle keys he said had been left behind the bar and proclaim his 4x4 was missing from the car park.
