He is Bradford’s answer to Billy Elliot.
James Buckley is celebrating another dancing success after becoming the South and West Yorkshire ballet champion.
The 13-year-old scholar at Woodhouse Grove, Apperley Bridge, is now looking forward to competing in the English championships.
James has been dancing with The Strickland Cook Theatre School in his home town of Halifax since he was three and ignored the jibes to pursue the hobby he is so passionate about.
James, who launched Look for Loneliness - an educational package for youngsters who feel lonely - after appearing on Junior Dragon’s Den, won his recent competition despite being struck down in February last year with the debilitating condition ME.
His proud mum, Vanessa, explains he has had to limit himself for the past 12 months. “I am really proud of him, especially when he overcame ME which leaves some people absolutely bed ridden.
She says her son is now ‘95 per cent better.’ “I am really proud of him and so pleased with him because he worked so hard and it’s nice when you achieve something when you have worked so hard.”
James said: “I am delighted to win the South and West Yorkshire Championship. Ballet is the main discipline; the foundation of all other dance. To win a Ballet Championship for me is a great achievement.”
