A Bradford woman has called for changes in the law after a second brother, imprisoned for systematically raping her as a child, had his jail term cut.
David and Peter Woolham were both jailed for eight years in January after they were convicted of repeatedly raping their sister, Sheila Clarkson, when she was growing up in the Wyke area of Bradford from the mid 1960s. The abuse continued for several years until she was 15.
Mrs Clarkson, 56, of Dudley Hill, who now has a son and two grandchildren, waived her right to anonymity in July to criticise a Court of Appeal decision to halve the prison sentence of David Woolham, 61, of Highgate Road, Clayton Heights, to four years.
She hit out again today after Peter Woolham, 60, of Prospect Street, Buttershaw, successfully applied to the Court of Appeal for his sentence to be reduced, from eight years to six years.
Mrs Clarkson said: “Something needs to be changed within the law if someone can commit such an horrendous crime, especially against children, and go to court and get the sentence reduced.
“The judge who sentenced them was right and gave them sentences that they deserved and were as worthy as the law allowed.
“They should have taken that on the chin and done their time."
