A couple who spent 14 years trying for a baby welcomed their twins into the world six weeks early – while on holiday 300 miles from home.
Alix and Saran Raven-Sarai, of Baildon, conceived twins Tyler and Aliza after having IVF in Thailand last December. The couple had spent more than £20,000 on five rounds of IVF.
Mrs Raven-Sarai was booked to have a caesarean section on September 1, but went into labour while on holiday in Devon.
She said: “We needed to go and check my parents’ old house in Devon because we didn’t know when we would get back again.
“We were just going for three days but on the Saturday my waters broke – it was all a bit dramatic.
“I was saying ‘we’ve got to get back to Yorkshire because that’s where all our things are’.”
She gave birth to the twins by caesarean section at The Royal Devon and Exeter hospital. Son Tyler was born first, weighing 3lb 12oz, before daughter Aliza, who weighed 4lb 11oz.
The twins were flown home by the Embrace Yorkshire and Humber Infant and Children’s Transport Service, from Sheffield Children’s NHS Foundation Trust.
