Developers behind a £1 million project for a major expansion at a Baildon primary school have revealed details of the scheme.

Bradford Council approved planning permission for the extension at Hoyle Court Primary School in Fyfe Grove, to accommodate the soaring number of pupils expected in the district over the next five years.

Now developers ISG have been given the go ahead to create four new classrooms, a workshop area and library with a new toilet, cloakroom areas and stores.

The single-storey extension will feature a green sedum roof, which will absorb carbon emissions and increase the amount of energy saved by the school.

A storm water management system will be installed to keep up to 90 per cent of the rainwater that falls on the roof. It regulates the flow of water to the sewers, avoiding sudden surges.

The car park and emergency vehicle access will be upgraded and the existing play area will be remodelled as part of the project, which is scheduled for completion early next year.

Planning permission for the extension was granted by the Shipley Area Planning Panel in July, despite concerns about traffic around the school and fewer car parking spaces.

It will boost the number of pupil spaces at the currently under-subscribed school from 210 to 315.

The intake will be staggered over the next five years, with 25 extra pupils each year joining the school up to 2017.

Baildon Conservative Councillor Roger L’Amie, shadow portfolio holder for children’s services, said: “There has been a lot of building in Baildon over the last few years and that is likely to cause an increase in the number of children in the long term.”
