A meeting to decide the fate of 300 homes planned for Menston was deferred this morning.
Hundreds of people turned up to the meeting of Bradford Council's area planning panel (Shipley) for a decision on schemes by two developers to build the homes at Derry Hill and Bingley Road.
But after opening the meeting at Kirklands Community Centre, panel chairman councillor Shabir Hussain was then forced to defer it on advice from planning officers, after it was revealed there had not been a response from the Environment Agency (EA) on the plans.
The EA is a statutory consultee and without a response, any decision could have been legalled challenged.
A new date for the meeting has not been set.
