Hundreds of youngsters from the areas worst hit by the Bradford riots will be honoured in a presentation ceremony recognising the contributions they have made to their communities.
Children from schools and sports clubs in Manningham, Frizinghall and Heaton have been nominated in the Young Persons Citizen’s Awards, and the winners will receive prizes at a ceremony on Friday.
The awards, which recognise unsung heroes, were set up by the SAFE project, started by campaigners Elizabeth Hellmich and Sue Brown in the aftermath of the 2001 riots.
The winners in each of the eight categories will receive trophies and be put forward to be named the overall winner.
That will be announced at the awards presentation event at St Bede’s Catholic Grammar School, Highgate, Heaton, on Friday at 3.45pm.
