Bradford’s recipe for Curry Capital success was submitted yesterday as the city’s bid to win the coveted 2011 crown hots up.
Four restaurants have teamed up to represent the city in the hope that they will earn the accolade of Curry Capital of Britain later this year.
Two Bradford venues – Prashad and Kipling’s, as well as Shipley’s Aagrah and Shimla Spice, based in Keighley – have revealed the secrets to their signature dishes to create a cookbook-style final appeal to the competition judges.
Prashad is the vegetarian restaurant that came close to winning Gordon Ramsay’s Best Restaurant title last year, Aagrah features in the Bradford Curry Capital team for the second year running, Kipling’s has a reputation for combining Indian cuisine with modern Western design, and Shimla Spice attracted more votes than any other curry restaurant in Britain during the earlier public voting rounds in this year’s competition.
Voting closed for the 17 cities in the running for the title last week, with more than 250,000 votes cast in total. Bradford came second to reigning champions Glasgow in this round. Now the judges will have the final say, scoring restaurants on the standard of their food and service, their hygiene and cleanliness and how they serve their communities.
The winner will be announced on November 1.
