Parents have expressed their anger after pupils were sent home from school for wearing the wrong kind of shoes.
Parkside School in Cullingworth has tightened up on its uniform policy, but some pupils were still turning up yesterday in banned trainers and canvas pumps.
Some parents were angry that children had been sent home with a letter and no phone call.
One annoyed mother who contacted the Telegraph & Argus but did not want to be named said “lots and lots of kids” had been sent home on the first day of the new rule.
“All kids are wearing black shoes but as they are canvas or like pumps they are saying they don’t like them and that they have to wear school shoes. I could understand this if it were girls wearing six-inch heels but this is ridiculous."
Head teacher Tony Rickwood said 900 plus pupils had turned up for school in the right uniform yesterday but about 20 parents “seemed to have been caught out” despite the school’s efforts to give plenty of notice.
