A pensioner has died after she was run down by her own car in the driveway of her Bradford home.
Agnes Bean, 79, fractured eight ribs in the freak accident in Langdale Avenue, Wyke, where she had lived for 26 years.
She was taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary but died of her injuries last week – more than three weeks after the tragedy occurred on Friday, August 26.
An inquest was yesterday opened and adjourned at Bradford Coroner’s Court pending further investigations into her death.
Next door neighbours Pat and Kenneth Tennant told the Telegraph & Argus how they were among the first at the scene after seeing widowed Mrs Bean lock her house door and go round to her Ford Ka parked in her drive that slopes downwards.
Mrs Tennant said: “Usually we know when she’s going out in the car because she revs it all the way up to the top but the first thing we heard that day was voices at the top of her drive.
“Another neighbour had been passing in his car and seen her crawling up the drive on her hands and knees.
“We went out and all she said was the car had run her over. The car had somehow been backed over a rosebush on to her garden at the side. She had nothing on her feet but there was a pair of slippers in the car and a pair of shoes at the bottom of the drive. We can’t work out what on earth happened."
