A man has appeared in court charged with causing the death of a 67-year-old man who died after an alleged robbery.
And police today continued an appeal for witnesses to the incident which is believed to have led to the death of Melvin Baldwin.
Ali Lee Campbell, 29, of Eagle Street, Keighley, was charged with manslaughter and robbery when he appeared before Bingley magistrates yesterday.
Mr Baldwin, 67, died on Friday eight days after an alleged incident at his home in Shipley Fields, Shipley.
Wearing a white sweatshirt, Campbell, who is also known as Beardshaw, appeared in a secure dock and spoke only to confirm his name, age and address. No application for bail was made by his solicitor during the hearing and he was remanded in custody.
Campbell will next appear by video link before a judge at Bradford Crown Court on September 28.
Detectives are still hunting for two men in connection with the incident.
Mr Baldwin, believed to be a retired baker, had thought a blow to his head had left him with just a cut lip. But, after his death, a post mortem was held on Friday which revealed he had suffered a more serious head injury.
The incident happened on Thursday, September 7 at 1.50pm at his flat on Valley Road.
One neighbour, who did not want to be named, said Mr Baldwin had lived in the flats for about four years and was a kind man who got on with his own life but was happy to talk to people and enjoyed helping take care of the communal garden.
Another neighbour, Sandra Illingworth, 50, said: "He helped me set up my new telly only a few weeks ago. As far as I knew he was a kind man who didn't deserve anything like this."
A 19-year-old man from Keighley, arrested on Sunday, is still in custody being questioned by detectives.
But police still want to find two other men suspected of being involved in the attack.
The first is described as white, in his mid-to-late-20s, about 6ft, of average to stocky build, with straight brown hair and a pale complexion.
The second man is white, in his mid-to-late-20s, about 5ft ten ins, slim to average, with dark brown, almost black, wavy hair and a place thin face with facial hair around his mouth and chin.
Anyone with information should call the incident room on (01535) 617167 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
