Bradford today woke up to its first-ever boxing world champion.
Junior Witter fulfilled his ultimate dream at London's Alexandra Palalce in the early hours of this morning as he brushed aside his American challenger to take the WBC world light-welterweight crown.
A travelling army of fans screamed their support for the 32-year-old as he beat DeMarcus Corley to become the first boxer from Bradford to take a world title.
His victory was never in doubt in a one-sided contest which went the 12-round distance but Witter was well ahead on the scorecards of all three judges to the delight of a full house.
The former undefeated British, European and Commonwealth champion has now opened the door to lucrative fights in the United States as well as a prospective meeting with Manchester's Ricky "Hitman" Hatton.
He said: "It still hasn't sunk in and it will take a while. This is what I've always dreamed would happen and now it's really true that I am the champion of the world."
