A man has been arrested after the body of a young woman was found at a house in Bradford.
Paramedics who were called to the terraced property in Richardson Avenue, Odsal, alerted police when the unnamed woman was found with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the scene.
She is believed to have been stabbed.
A 26-year-old man was found at the house with serious injuries. He was placed under arrest and taken to Bradford Royal Infirmary.
Last night he was under police guard at the hospital's intensive care unit.
An investigation into the death of the woman, believed to be aged 25, is being led by Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan, of West Yorkshire Police's Homicide and Major Enquiry Team.
A police spokesman said the dead woman, who lived at the address, had suffered injuries consistent with being stabbed.
Richardson Avenue was cordoned off yesterday as police officers kept a watch on the house.
Garden furniture was strewn across the grass at the back of the house and a female officer stood guard next to an open window which was covered by silver plastic.
The police spokesman said last night: "On arrival, officers discovered the body of a local woman, believed to be a 25-year-old.
"A 26-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and will be questioned by police. He is currently being treated in hospital.
"The scene is currently being examined and inquiries are ongoing."
Paula Crossland, 34, of Collbrook Avenue, which is next to Richardson Avenue, said she had been returning home when she saw police cars arriving.
She said: "As I was walking back I saw two police cars and the street had been taped up.
"It is quite scary and you do not expect something like this on your doorstep."
Mrs Crossland said she believed a couple lived in the house with their 11-year-old son.
