Bridlington: A big celebration weekend is coming up in Bridlington courtesy of the Royal British Legion. It all takes place in the Leisureworld on Friday to Sunday, September 22 to 24.
Friday night from 18.15 there will be a 1940s Themed dance with fancy dress and music from 20.00hrs to 23.30hrs. Tickets £5.
On Saturday the RAF Regimental Band will entertain from 19.15 to 21.30 followed by Opus 1, a band from Hull, who will carry on until midnight. A raffle and tombola will be run.
On Sunday there will be a church service at noonwith a march led by the Royal Signals Northern Band. Buses will be provided from the Priory Church to Leisureworld for non-marchers.
There wll then be a band concert for 45 minutes. Sunday is free but a weekend ticket is available for £10 to cover all events. If you are interested ring Barry Moody on 0126 267 6622.
About 30 standards usually attend this annual event, if yours is going inform the organisers.

- Salerno: It was on September 12, 1943, that the Germans launched a counter attack with tanks and artillery on the allied bridgehead at Salerno. The enemy were entrenched and over the next few days tried to drive the Fifth Army back. The Allies landed rein-forcements and by the 16th were gaining the upper hand. The Germans later began their withdrawal.
