Every victim of crime in the Bradford area is now being sent a letter keeping them closely informed about how the police investigation is progressing.
The new initiative is the latest move by West Yorkshire Police to provide maximum support and information for victims and witnesses of crime.
The letters arrive within days of a crime being reported and reveal if it is being investigated further.
Each one contains crime reference details, including the name of the officer in charge of the investigation.
Included is a leaflet offering support and advice, and contact details for Victim Support.
Chief Inspector Neil Hunter, of Criminal Justice Support, said the letters were in addition to personal contact from investigating officers throughout an inquiry.
He said: "The importance of the requirements of the Victims' Code for the police have been recognised and steps taken to ensure they are met throughout West Yorkshire."
Chief Insp Hunter said each police division worked closely with its local branch of Victim Support to ensure cases were referred to it as soon as possible.
"If a victim is required to attend court in a criminal case they are contacted by the Witness Care Unit which consists of both police and Crown Prosecution Service staff.
"A Witness Care Officer is allocated to the victim as a single point of contact for the duration of the case and keeps them informed of the progress, including when they are needed in court, in addition to informing them of the outcome of the case.
"Witness Care Units are now established at both Bradford and Leeds and cover cases throughout West Yorkshire," said Ch Insp Hunter.
