A familiar name is to disappear from Ilkley’s High Street after about 50 years of retailing in the town.
Arthur English Lighting on The Grove is closing its doors on Tuesday after owners Stuart and Claire Richardson decided it was too costly to keep going.
The family-run company was bought by Mrs Richardson’s father about 20 years ago but rises in rent and running costs have led to a decision not to renew the lease.
Instead they will concentrate on internet sales through their website lamps andlighting.co.uk.
Mr Richardson said the couple would like to thank all their customers and that they would be welcome at their warehouse on Ashlands Road.
“The High Street has just become too expensive for our business,” he said.
“It’s just a shame for the town which is losing a lot of independent businesses and I’m sure there will be a lot more in the next few months.”
