Villagers are being challenged to help save a popular event which attracts thousands of people from across the country.
They are being asked to rally to the rescue of Haworth Village Association, which recently organised the village’s 1940s Weekend.
The call has come from chairman Linda Presley, owner of The Chocolate Box in Main Street, who said the association was facing a £5,000 loss on the £20,000 cost of the event.
She warned that if there was no new support for the association, it would be axed.
Now she has called an extraordinary meeting for Wednesday, June 1, at the White Lion, Haworth, at 7.30pm to try and stimulate support.
“I want people to step up to the mark and say they will join and support us,” she said. “It’s unfair to expect two or three people to run the whole thing.”
She said the 1940s and 1960s events and entertainment organised at Christmas boosted the profile of the village.
Association member Mike Hutchinson, who runs Ye Sleeping House in Main Street, said he calculated the 1940s weekend stimulated the economy by more than £300,000.
