A man was taken to hospital after collapsing with a suspected heart problem after a wheelclamping dispute.
Police and paramedics were called to the Changegate Car Park, Haworth, at 2.20pm yesterday.
Police said a man was taken ill in the car park and had to be taken to hospital for treatment.
A police spokesman said: “The caller alleges he had been spat on. Another man was taken ill in the car park and taken to hospital for treatment. Officers have spoken to the caller and advice given.” No offences have been recorded.
Ted Evans, who owns the car park, said a car park attendant had spoken to the driver of the car about the fact he had not bought a ticket.
Mr Evans said: “The driver said he wasn’t going to get one because a family member he was with was just nipping across to the shop and would be back. The attendant started to put the clamp on the wheel and he said ‘you can’t do that it’s against the law’.
“The driver then ran across to the police station and on his way back fell over. While the incident was unfolding there was a coach driver videoing what was happening including the fact that this man was in distress. That didn’t seem appropriate and caused a lot of problems.
“The clamp was taken away and the man was offered a drink of water and an aspirin and the ambulance was called and I understand he was taken to Airedale Hospital. This is a very unfortunate incident. Nobody wants anything like this to happen. It was distressing for everyone.” A Yorkshire Ambulance Service spokesman said the man received treatment from ambulance staff and was taken to Airedale General Hospital for further care.
