Bradford police have urged the public to report incidents of violence after a couple were attacked in the city centre.
The pair were assaulted by a gang of youths in Ivegate, but the incident, partially captured on CCTV, was not reported to police.
A witness said the young couple were walking down Ivegate, at 1.13am on Sunday, when a group of two or three youths came round the corner of Tyrrel Street, walked into them and attacked them.
The witness, who did not want to be named, said the man was punched and his girlfriend shoved. The girl began screaming hysterically, attracting the attention of staff and customers at the Gasworks Bar, who rushed to their aid.
He said the attackers ran off. The couple did not appear to be badly injured and the incident was not reported to police.
“The attack was unprovoked.
“People who witnessed the attack were going to call the police but given the attackers were chased off, if seemed a waste of time.”
Chief Inspector Paul Hepworth said: “It is important that people contact the police if they witness incidents of this nature. Unless we know it has happened, we cannot act.
“Now this has been brought to our attention, we will be looking into the matter and would appeal for any witnesses, or anyone with information, to contact 0845 6060606, or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555111."
