A poster encouraging commuters to be eco-friendly designed by Bradford schoolgirl Georgia Beasley will be seen at railway stations across Yorkshire.
The nine-year-old pupil, of Low Moor Primary School, won a competition by train operator Northern Rail, which will also see her designs used on a leaflet to be sent to thousands of schoolchildren. Pupils at Georgia’s school visited Bradford Interchange to learn the importance of recycling at stations as part of a project by Northern Rail and environment charity Urban Mines.
Georgia said: “I am so happy to win the competition, and I couldn’t believe it when I saw my poster up at the station.
“All the people walking past to get on trains will see my picture and I am really pleased other children around the country will see it too.”
Dr Karen Booth, head of sustainability at Northern Rail, said: “We are working to become the most carbon- friendly rail operator in the UK, and it’s thanks to programmes like this that we are as successful as we are.
“We want to spread the word about the impact a simple thing such as waste separation can have on our environment and make a positive contribution to these children.”
