Free fun will celebrate this summer’s opening of Ilkley’s historic Lido on Saturday.
To mark the occasion Bradford Council is waiving fees for attractions at the Denton Road site which includes its indoor pool, climbing wall, tennis courts and putting green.
Music and face painting will be some of the attractions to get people into the summertime mood from 10am.
Ilkley Lido, close to the spa town’s centre, is the only outdoor pool in the area and is famed for its views across Ilkley Moor.
Councillor The Reverend Paul Flowers, who has responsibility for culture, planning and sport, wants to make sure people know there is much more to the Lido complex than just swimming.
He said: “The opening of the Lido has almost come to define the beginning of summer in the Bradford district but the Council – under its B-active banner – also wants people to be aware of a wide range of sporting opportunities out there.”
The Lido will remain open until September 4.
Supporters of Ilkley Lido have some big plans for the year ahead.
The Friends of Ilkley Lido are looking to turn a pavilion on the Council-owned site into a gym and to build on the success of last year’s Live at the Lido concert.
This year’s Live at The Lido will be on Saturday, July 9, and plans for a drive-in movie may be included.
