Bradford is one of the friendliest places to live in Yorkshire with almost two thirds of residents getting along well with their neighbours, a new poll has found.
More than 61 per cent of people surveyed in the city said they liked their neighbours with just York ranking higher in the poll with 64 per cent.
Of the 11 cities and towns surveyed, Bradford had the lowest number of people (24 per cent) admitting to actively avoiding their neighbours so they did not have to speak to them.
Almost one in six people in the city polled said they knew four or more of their neighbours names and had been round for a cup of tea at a neighbour’s house.
Bradford came third behind Harrogate and York for the number of people whose neighbours had looked after plants, post or pets while they had been away with more than 57 per cent saying people living nearby had kept an eye on things for them.
Residents out in Idle yesterday certainly seemed to agree with the findings.
Pensioner Patricia Roberts, 82, said: “I have got some great neighbours. When I go out I talk to them and one likes to come round for a natter.
“They make me feel safer. I know I can go to them any time if I were in need. When you are getting older you don’t know what’s going to happen.”
The research was carried out ahead of The Big Lunch on Sunday, June 5, which aims to encourage thousands of neighbourhoods across the UK to hold get-togethers for neighbours.
