Australian developer Westfield is poised to re-start its mothballed shopping centre scheme in Bradford city centre.
The group is back in talks with retailers to let shop space at the £320 million Broadway scheme, which stalled as the worldwide recession took hold.
It has identified the Bradford scheme as one of 18 projects – totalling £6.75 billion in the UK, US, Australia and New Zealand – where “pre-development activity” is taking place, according to its first quarterly performance review.
A spokesman for Westfield said: “We are in discussions with retailers and are encouraged by the level of interest, including that from department stores.
“We continue working with Bradford Metropolitan District Council and there remains a strong commitment to deliver the project.”
In 2008, Westfield put the brakes on the 587,700 sq ft, 100-store scheme, after having agreements with major high street retailers to let half of the space available.
