Police have renewed their appeal for the mother of a newborn girl to come forward after the baby's body was found in a Bradford waste treatment plant.

Since yesterday’s appeal, detectives have received information from the public and are following up lines of enquiry.

But officers are still seeking vital information as to how the baby's body came to be in the Associated Waste Management treatment plant on Valley Road, Bradford, where it was discovered at around 2.30am on Thursday.

Following a post mortem yesterday, it appears the girl was white, but a cause of death has not, as yet, been ascertained.

It is believed the baby girl was unlikely to have been born in a hospital and may have died two to three days before her body was discovered.

Enquiries have revealed 97 loads of waste were delivered to the Valley Road unit on Wednesday, 51 of which were from Bradford and the remainder were from elsewhere in West Yorkshire.

This raises the possibility the youngster may be from an area of West Yorkshire other than Leeds and Bradford.

Detective Superintendent Sukhbir Singh who is leading the enquiry, said: “I thank members of the public who have contacted us so far. Our focus continues to be to identify this baby's mother and I would urge her friends, relatives and neighbours to contact West Yorkshire Police.

"Somebody in West Yorkshire must know who the mother of this child is and I would ask them to provide the key piece information we need to find her.

“We remain greatly concerned for the mother's condition and welfare and want to ensure she gets the medical attention she deserves."
