Police are appealing for help in finding the mother of a new-born baby girl whose body was discovered at a Shipley waste site today.
Police were called at 2.30am by staff who made the grim discovery at Associated Waste Management in Canal Road. Emergency services attended the scene but it was confirmed the baby girl was already dead.
At a press conference this afternoon, Detective Superintendent Sukhbir Singh, who is leading the investigation, made a plea to find the child’s mother.
He said: "We have genuine concerns for the health and welfare of the mother of this young baby and our overriding priority at the moment is to find her and ensure her safety.
"She may well be in need of medical attention herself and I would urge her to contact us as a matter of urgency."
A post-mortem examination was due to be conducted today to determine the cause of baby's death.
Anyone who has information should contact Detective Sergeant Ian Lawrie at the HMET on 0845 6060606.
