A “mindless thug” who kicked a man unconscious outside a bar, breaking his jaw in two places, has been jailed for five years and nine months.
Richard Edwards laid into Nicolas Stefanuti when he was motionless on the ground outside the Suburban Style Bar in Westgate, Baildon.
Edwards, 30, of Dalecroft Rise, Allerton, Bradford, rained punches on Mr Stefanuti then kicked him forcefully to the head twice, Bradford Crown Court heard.
Mobile phone footage of the late night attack on July 3 last year was played in the court yesterday.
Gary Peel, 30, of Pasture Road, Baildon, who joined in the attack, was jailed for 12 months.
Edwards pleaded guilty to wounding Mr Stefanuti with intent to cause him grievous bodily harm. Peel was convicted by a jury of unlawful wounding and affray.
Prosecutor Rebecca Young said Edwards punched Mr Stefanuti in the head several times outside the bar at 11.45pm.
Edwards’ girlfriend was slumped drunk outside the bar and he stormed out and became angry about what Mr Stefanuti was saying to her.
Edwards apologised but Mr Stefanuti thought he was going to hit him again and punched him first.
As the pair wrestled together, Peel joined in the fight. Witnesses spoke of him “jabbing him in a controlled manner”.
Mr Stefanuti lost consciousness and woke up on the ground surrounded by witnesses and the police.
His jaw was broken in two places, his eyelid was hanging off, his teeth loosened and he was covered in bruises.
A plate fitted to his jaw had to be removed and the jaw realigned in a second operation.
Edwards’ solicitor, Alistair Bateman, said he had insight into his offending and was remorseful.
Nick Askins, for Peel, said he was a hard-working painter and decorator with no convictions for violence.
Judge Potter told Edwards: “You are a brutal and vicious person indulging in mindless violence – you are nothing more or less than a mindless thug.”
