Coronation Street star Anthony Cotton, who plays Sean Tully in the soap, will be the compere at this year’s Bradford Pride.

The actor will be presenting the event, which takes place in the Bradford Urban Garden on Saturday.

Organisers hope the success of the event, celebrating the city’s lesbian, gay and bisexual communities, will continue to grow like in previous years.

The Bradford Pride Committee has taken over the organisation of the event, which was previously led by the Equity Partnership, Bradford’s lesbian, gay and bisexual strategic body.

Rachel Nauwelaerts, of the Equity Partnership and secretary of the Bradford Pride Committee, said: “We would hope to get about 10,000 people again throughout the day, which we got last year.”

The line-up includes stand up from Barbara Nice, who appeared on Peter Kay’s Phoenix Nights, as well as cabaret acts The Showbears and cover acts including Lady Zaza.

In February, the Telegraph & Argus reported how the Bradford Pride Committee had appealed for help in raising the funds needed to make this year’s celebration go ahead.

Miss Nauwelaerts said sponsors, including the Co-operative Motor Group and the Midland Hotel, came forward in the wake of the report.

Miss Nauwelaerts said:“We try to make it family-orientated so everybody can come down. It’s getting bigger and better and we have got a track record now of making it happen and having a really good day.”
