The Lord Mayor’s Appeal has raised at least £95,000 for a new adventure playground at the Nell Bank outdoor centre in Ilkley.
The playground, which will be more inclusive for children with disabilities, will replace the centre’s existing outdoor play area, which has been used by about 400,000 youngsters since it was built more than 20 years ago.
The Lord Mayor, Councillor Peter Hill, whose mayoral year ends next week, said donations for the appeal, which ran throughout his term in office, had come from across the district and were still being received.
He said: “I would like to thank all the people who have donated money towards my appeal and that covers a huge number of people.
“I’d like to thank them for their belief in the charity and the work we are doing to benefit young people, because without them it wouldn’t have got off the ground."
The new playground, which will include a tree house, will be suitable for use in all weathers and be modular in design so individual sections can be taken away for servicing.
