A grandmother was celebrating her 100th birthday today with residents at a sheltered housing scheme.
Rhoda Baynes, of Falkland Court, Bingley, moved to the town in 1972 to be near her sister and has lived at the complex since it was built 26 years ago. The mother-of-two, who also has two grandchildren, was to mark her milestone at a party with family and neighbours.
Mrs Baynes grew up on a farm near Driffield before moving to Hull and Beverley. After the death of her husband in 1966 she went to work as a decorator.
She said: “I have had quite a varied life. I have just kept going.”
