The sister of a Baildon soldier who died in Afghanistan will jump 14,000 feet from a plane to mark the second anniversary of her brother’s death.

Lynsay Fallon, and her friends Amy Chester and Kelly McGhee, will take part in the tandem skydive to remember Jordan Rossi, who died aged 22.

Sapper Rossi, of 38 Engineer Regiment, was killed by an undetectable Improvised Explosive Device (IED), which exploded while he was on patrol near Sangin, Helmand Province, on May 23, 2009.

On Saturday, the three women will travel to an airfield for the skydive, the proceeds of which will be given to military charity Help for Heroes.

Miss Fallon, 27, said: “This is in memory of my brother. He was out in Afghanistan fighting for his country, so this is the least we could do for him.”

They will arrive at the Black Knights Parachute Centre in Cockram, Lancaster, at 10am on Saturday and, after a half-hour briefing, will be strapped to parachute instructors before free-falling at more than 120mph.

Amy Chester, 27, of Baildon, said she was “really nervous” about the jump. She said: “It is the only time I’ve done anything like this, but it is in memory of the anniversary of Jordan’s death and to raise money for Help for Heroes, so it is a good cause.”

She said the trio had already smashed their fundraising target of £1,200, with the total standing at about £2,500 so far.

Sapper Rossi’s mum Teresa said the family had vowed to mark her son’s memory each year.
