A community coffee shop run by the Salvation Army has opened in Wibsey High Street.

The organisation has taken out a three-year lease on the shop to provide a place for people to meet.

Major Martin Wheeler, of Wibsey Salvation Army, said: “There was no place in Wibsey offering a cafe environment so we wanted to do that and also as the Salvation Army we wanted a Christian presence where people can come and meet that’s not a church but where they can still find that atmosphere.”

Staffed by manager Sarah Pitts and volunteers, it is open from 9.30am to 2.30pm on weekdays and from 9.30am to noon on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
