An emergency public meeting has been called for residents concerned about a bid to build 17 homes on a field in their village.

Patchett Homes Ltd wants to redevelop land to the north of Sapgate Lane, Thornton. A decision on whether to grant planning permission was deferred by Bradford Area Planning Panel in March.

Conservative ward councillor Malcolm Sykes had pointed out a “glaring omission” in the planners’ report. The bundle had failed to contain a ‘Building for Life’ assessment in which it scored six out of 20. The document suggested it was therefore “a poor development indeed”.

But Patchett has submitted a revised application and City Hall planners are recommending the new plans be approved at the next meeting of the area planning panel on Thursday.

Coun Sykes said he had called a meeting at Thornton Primary School at 7pm today for residents to discuss the development.

An architect for Patchett was expected to attend.

Coun Sykes said: “One of the problems I have with the recommendations is that the Building for Life score has got better in the last few months. It has gone up from six out of 20 to 17 out of 20. How?

“The main point here for residents is that they have little grounds to block it because this is a housing site set out in the RUDP (replacement Unitary Development Plan). It’s available for building.”
