Primary school pupils have been helping make life more comfortable for visitors at one of the country’s greatest old monasteries.
About 15 children, aged seven to nine, at Burley Oaks Primary in Burley-in-Wharfedale, were involved in a project to make cushions for Byland Abbey, North Yorkshire.
Basing their designs on patterns of medieval tiles and photographs of the abbey, the cushions were donated to English Heritage for use at the site in Coxwold, near Thirsk.
The children handed the cushions over in a visit to the abbey.
