Murder-squad detectives were last night continuing to question two men about the discovery of a woman’s badly-burned body in a Bradford park.

The men, aged 39 and 32, believed to be cousins, were arrested on suspicion of murder after police swooped on an address in Eggleston Drive, Holme Wood, on Thursday evening.

The pair remained in custody at a police station in Bradford last night.

They are being questioned in connection with the discovery of the body in Pit Hill Park, off Holme Lane, close to the Holme Wood estate, early on Thursday.

The body was found by firefighters responding to a report of a blaze.

A post-mortem examination was being carried out yesterday.

The victim was so badly burned that police were initially unable to establish the sex.

It is thought the woman was killed in a domestic incident before her body was taken to the park where a petrol-soaked mattress was used to try to destroy the evidence.

The discovery was made only half a mile from the spot in New Lane where the bodies of two men were found dumped 36 hours earlier.

Detectives have now ruled out any connection between the two incidents.

Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor, of West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team, who is leading the inquiry into the woman’s killing, said: “We are working with the Coroner to make a formal identification.

“Officers have attended an address on Eggleston Drive in the Holme Wood area of Bradford which will now be the subject of forensic examinations.

“Following our initial inquiries, we are not drawing any connection to the recent incident on New Lane in Tong.

“I believe the answers to this discovery near Holme Lane lie locally and we would ask anyone who might have any information or any witnesses to contact the police immediately at the incident room on (01924) 334675.”

Police tape yesterday cordoned off a row of houses at the bottom of Eggleston Drive. Officers were standing guard.

Forensics officers wearing white suits could be seen carrying out investigations in the cul-de-sac.

A woman who lives near the cordoned-off area said there had been a lot of “Chinese whispers” on the Holme Wood estate after the murder investigation was started.

She said she knew the family of the men who had been arrested, and believed they were cousins.

“It has an effect on their family” she said. “They are up and down, they don’t know what to do.

“From what we’ve been told, it was a woman who died.”
