A charity which gives children with Down’s syndrome a brighter and more inclusive future has started a fundraising appeal in a bid to raise £100,000.

The money would pay the running costs for a year for The Down Syndrome Training and Support Service, which has its headquarters at The Pamela Sunter Centre, in Town Lane, Thackley.

Group co-ordinator and trainer Dr Wendy Uttley said: “We are now members of Just Giving and this month sees the launch of our appeal to raise one year’s core running costs of £100,000.

“Donations of £12,000 will fund speech and language group sessions; £60,000 will fund the salaries of the co-ordinator and trainer, the deputy co-ordinator, four administration staff and cleaner; £12,000 will fund rent and rates and £16,000 will fund utilities, stationery and postage.

“Without these core costs our charity will be unable to deliver its day-to-day services.”

The registered charity was founded by Dr Uttley in September 2000 with just four families but now its work includes providing training courses which are attended by more than 500 parents and professionals each year and more than 210 families with children with Down’s syndrome are supported by the group.
