A nine-year-old girl left paralysed after falling from a climbing frame has finally returned home more than a year after the accident.

Bel Young, a former pupil at Moorfield School in Ilkley, has spent months in hospital as a result of the accident and had only been allowed to go home for short periods of time.

But now she is able to return home after a raft of fundraising events helped her family pay for special equipment including a ventilator, physiotherapy and care providers at her home.

Bel’s parents, Simon and Vanessa, set up The Being Bel Trust to raise funds and the latest event, a silent auction and concert at Ilkley’s Craiglands Hotel, brought in £14,500 for the cause.

Carol Dawson, of Beamsley, who organised the event, said she had been overwhelmed by the generosity of people.

“It just goes to show how Bel’s tragic accident has touched the hearts of so many people,” she said.
