A song by Bradford band Wilful Missing is to feature on an episode of TV drama Waterloo Road tonight.

The band caught the attention of producers while appearing at a festival last summer.

Albert Freeman, a member of the five-piece, said: “We were a headline act at Rough Beats in North Yorkshire. One of the directors was there and he bought our EP, Vast Atlantic. He chose one of the tracks, DIY, to use in Waterloo Road.”

The song is set to appear on the episode which is described as particularly dramatic.

“We have been told it will be played during a poignant scene at the end,” said Albert.

“Waterloo Road is a popular show – the previous series was watched by more than five million viewers and it’s broadcast all over the world – so it’s great exposure for us. We hope people will hear the song and then go on to find out more about us.”

Wilful Missing, an acoustic folk rock act, are working on their debut album, to be released shortly on their Little Attic record label.

Comprising Sam Kipling, Sam Lawrence, Ruth Viqueira, Rhys Kelly, Sarah Smout and Albert Freeman, the band play a range of instruments, including the mandolin, cello, clarinet, accordion, bagpipes, cajon and penny whistle.

Wilful Missing have performed around Bradford and surrounding areas and last year played live sessions on local and national radio stations.

This series of Waterloo Road, set in a Rochdale school, stars Amanda Burton and Robson Green and also features Tom Milne, a pupil at Stardom Performing Arts in Shelf.
