A man who was involved in "thuggish" behaviour at a Skipton bar was today given a suspended prison sentence.

Adrian Platt, 25, intervened in a confrontation at the Breeze Bar, involving a woman, a man and another man whom he knew.

Bradford Crown Court heard that Platt attacked Nathan Thornton.

Prosecutor John Topham said doormen took Platt away but he was still angry and tried to get at Mr Thornton again.

Platt told police he "lost his rag" after he was punched in the back of the head, and punched the man back.

He was ashamed of what he had done, the court heard.

The judge, Recorder Darren Preston, said there had been an outbreak of "quite horrible" violence immediately after Platt had put his hand on the other man's shoulder.

Recorder Preston told him: "It's clear you were behaving disgracefully in this sustained attempt to inflict violence on Mr Thornton.

“He sustained barely any injury at all – it wasn't for want of trying on your part."

Platt, of Moorlands Terrace, Skipton, pleaded guilty to affray.

He was given a ten-month prison sentence suspended for a year, a two-month curfew, and ordered to carry out 200 hours of unpaid community work.
