by Kathie Griffiths T&A Reporter A six-year-old boy has been scarred for life after being caught in the cross-fire of two boys throwing broken bricks.

Bradley Jones wandered out of his back yard into the alley at the back of his house in Thornbury Drive, Thornbury, after school into the firing line of bricks being thrown by two boys.

His shocked mum Julie Smith heard him scream and ran out to find him on the ground covered in blood.

“It was just horrific. It was a horrible, deep gash. He’d gone down on his knees and fallen forward on to the floor. His chest and knees were all grazed too. I yelled for his dad who had to cover him with a towel,” said Miss Smith who has four other children.

By chance there were two patrolling neighbourhood police officers nearby who came to help.

“They were trying to keep him awake. He just wanted to nod off. We called an ambulance but even that was dramatic,” she said.

“The officers called for more police to come then the first ambulance had to be diverted because of a life-threatening call and then the second one they called still hadn’t come an hour later so a neighbour took us to hospital.”

At Bradford Royal Infirmary, Bradley was diagnosed with severe concussion and after treatment and some observation was later allowed home.

Miss Smith said: “He’s had his head glued but doctors have said he’ll have the scar forever now.
