Pupils took part in a successful ‘Knit and Natter’ club at Wilsden Primary School which has been ‘knitting for bricks’ to help build schools in under-developed African countries.
The knitting club has been set up by teaching assistant Rachel Westwood and is for pupils in key stage two and meets at lunch times in the school in Tweedy Street, Wilsden.
Members of the club have previously knitted blanket squares for dogs’ homes and are now knitting Burundi Bears. Now the little hand-knitted bears are part of a project run by the registered charity Facilitaid. Each bear is £1, which provides for four bricks towards the school. The bears are available to buy from the school office.
