Bingley Little Theatre’s 63rd season continues this month with a production of the Arthur Miller classic All My Sons.
Set in 1947, the play is about Joe Keller, who has sacrificed everything to build a prosperous life for his family. Aged 61, he has lost a son in the war and his remaining son, Chris, wishes to marry Ann, the fiancee of his brother, Larry. Their mother believes Larry is still alive and it is this belief which has enabled her to support Joe, while keeping a secret of her own.
This is the third Arthur Miller play Sandra Williams has directed for Bingley Little Theatre. “All My Sons is a compelling story of love, guilt and the corrupting power of greed set against the aftermath of the Second World War,” says Sandra. “Self-made Joe Keller and his partner have built up a business selling engine parts for fighter planes. The parts, however, are defective. Keller continues to sell them, driven by the desire for wealth and success, regardless of the impact on his family and friends and potential risks to pilots’ lives and the war effort.”
The play runs at Bingley Arts Centre from Monday, May 16, to Saturday, May 21. Ring (01274) 432000.
