A former Ilkley man is continuing his quest to trek 2,000 kilometres across the Pyrenees despite the death of his donkey.
Christopher Stanfield, 23, is continuing alone on the Camino de Santiago de Compostela pilgrim route in northern Spain, raising money for a maternity hospital in Somalia.
Friends in Ilkley are supporting his journey, which he hoped to complete with Zidane the donkey. But the animal collapsed and died after eating yew leaves, which are toxic to equines.
Mr Stanfield has been travelling around Europe, camping and volunteering on farms, since he left his job as a chef last year.
Christopher has been keeping friends and family updated on his progress via Facebook, and his story has been broadcast on Spanish radio.
The Hollygarth Social Club and Ben Rhydding Methodist Church members have made donations. Sponsorship details can be found at facebook.com/home.php?sk=group_140317546030184
